For many people Twitch is a safe haven, a place of escapism and relaxation around their favorite games/content. For others it can be a grueling fight to get their feet off the ground as a content creator. Well put your feet up and get your notepad out. I'm going to explain how I tutor my student's easy and effective strategies to grow correctly on Twitch. ABOUT ME: My names Ali, I originally started creating content in 2014 with little luck/success. I gave up completely in 2016. I then worked my way through the Sales and Marketing Industry faster than anyone before me. Starting my own company in late 2019. I then decided to come back to Twitch and use my knowledge as a Sales/Marketing Executive to grow on Twitch. 8 days later I reached affiliate with 23 Subs at the end of my first affiliate stream. It was at this point I realized, I can use my extensive knowledge of the Twitch Platform and Social Skills to build a great community much faster than many on the platform. I now run a YouTube channel with weekly growth and marketing tips as well as a weekly podcast where myself and another guest creator talk, Content creation, growth tips and more. MY 3 GROWTH TIPS FOR PATH TO AFFILIATE: 1. Don't focus on the numbers. Whether it be reaching the 50 Followers or your 3 average viewers, Watching the numbers whilst you're live has a severe effect on your attitude towards the stream. By simply turning the view count off while you're live you will never feel the need to spike in energy or engagement when someone is watching you. You'll be more consistent at keeping the energy flowing and you will reap the benefits from this.
2. Never have 0 viewers. I spend a lot of time browsing the depths of Twitch's listings for small streamers to analyse and engage with when they show great potential but there's something I won't do, that's watching someone with 0 viewers. Twitch allows for you to watch your own stream under your own network on 2 devices. meaning you can potentially always have 2 viewers simply by opening the stream on a TV/Phone/Laptop ect. Having 0 viewers isn't necessary and the difference in your position in the listings between 0-1 viewers is incredible. You become more discoverable and by having a viewer your have more validity to new viewers, making them more inclined to stop in on you.
3. No dead air. This one is a crucial skill to learn as a livestreamer, being able to consistently output some level of conversation to the stream will be the breaking point for you to start retaining viewers. In the world of sales we have a proven theory that the first 7 seconds are the most impressionable. If you cannot gain interest in yourself within that initial 7 seconds you're highly unlikely to keep them engaged for another 30. Dead air isn't easy to overcome as a new streamer but there are things you can do to prevent it. Before each stream write down some things you've done recently, your hobbies, your work experiences ect and when you don't have anything to talk about, use the notes as reference to start a conversation. You may find someone with similar hobbies or interest in your experiences that will then want to know more. If you're playing with friends, make sure their audio is good and have great conversations with them while you're live, that way there's constantly a feed of conversation for viewers to engage with.
I hope these tips have helped and maybe opened your eyes to something you might not have considered.. Check out my YouTube channel dedicated to helping your strive for, build and achieve a better stream.

These are great tips I think, and basically what I've been trying to do, so that's good. I've been streaming for about 6 weeks now, and I have hit everything except the follower count, on my path to affiliate. I've been raided by a couple friends a few times, which has definitely helped my viewer count! I do struggle sometimes with what to talk about, but I'm getting better. It's much easier when there are actual people in the chat, saying something! I'm streaming art, so I can't talk about gameplay as it happens. I do talk about what I'm doing, but sometimes I feel like, how much does the viewer really want to know about this shading brush?? I've gotten more comfortable with talking to myself though. I've just been trying to grow naturally. All of my followers are organic, legit followers. I don't do follow-for-follow or anything like that, because I really want followers who are genuinely interested in what I'm doing. I feel that's the best way to grow, on any platform.
